چکیده

S U M M A R Y Our study of lake sediments from Grandfather Lake in SW Alaska (N59.8181◦, W158.5597◦) yields the first geomagnetic inclination record for Alaska that spans the entire Holocene. The record is based on three overlapping sets of piston cores and is well dated by seven AMS radiocarbon dates. Its magnetic component consists of PSD (5–15μm) magnetite that occurs in concentrations ranging from 10 to 1000 ppm. Some samples may also contain titanomagnetite (TM30) as a minor component. Variations in the concentration of magnetic minerals are caused by changes in sediment source and organic productivity. The magnetic inclination record shows several features between present and 15 ka BP, which shed light on the short-term behaviour of the geomagnetic field at high latitudes and can be used for site correlations. A distinct drop in inclination near 12 ka BP is a record of a possible local magnetic excursion.

Late Pleistocene and Holocene glaciation of the Fish Lake valley, northeastern Alaska Range, Alaska

We reconstructed a chronology of glaciation spanning from the Late Pleistocene through the late Holocene for Fish Lake valley in the north-eastern Alaska Range using Be surface exposure dating and lichenometry. After it attained its maximum late Wisconsin extent, the Fish Lake valley glacier began to retreat ca. 16.5 ka, and then experienced a readvance or standstill at 11.6 0.3 ka. Evidence of...

Reconstruction environmental changes of Maharlou Lake in Holocene

Extended Abstract: 1-Introduction There is a direct relationship in evaporative deposit with the changes in the depth of the lake. Therefore?, valuable information is gained regarding the causation of changes in environment over time. Evaporite minerals formation is a natural phenomenon accruing in water-bodies containing deferent mineral Since sulfate is abundant in seawater and saline lakes...

A late Quaternary record of eolian silt deposition in a maar lake, St. Michael Island, western Alaska

Recent stratigraphic studies in central Alaska have yielded the unexpected finding that there is little evidence for full-glacial (late Wisconsin) loess deposition. Because the loess record of western Alaska is poorly exposed and not well known, we analyzed a core from Zagoskin Lake, a maar lake on St. Michael Island, to determine if a full-glacial eolian record could be found in that region. P...

Late Pleistocene and late Holocene lake highstands in the Pyramid Lake subbasin of Lake Lahontan, Nevada, USA

Shoreline geomorphology, shoreline stratigraphy, and radiocarbon dates of organic material incorporated in constructional beach ridges record large lakes during the late Pleistocene and late Holocene in the Pyramid Lake subbasin of Lake Lahontan, Nevada, USA. During the late Holocene, a transgression began at or after 3595 F 35 C yr B.P. and continued, perhaps in pulses, through 2635 F 40 C yr ...

Paleo-climate reconstructions based on multi-proxy such as sedimentology is current in climatology investigation. In this way, National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Science cored 960cm from Arzhan wetland SW of Iran than we have investigated of sedimentology. Primarily the core was measured on magnetic sensibility per 1cm and secondly was subsampled according to magnetic sensibilit...
